Status questions need the right reference

Separate confirmed records from assumptions.

A pending application may have store-side records, eForms notices, submission references, and official processing information. Those sources do not all answer the same question.

Range 313 can help customers organize what they have and determine where a question belongs, while only ATF can provide or change official agency status.

Organized application follow-up

Useful follow-up starts with complete records

Bring the confirmation before asking for a conclusion.

Transfer status assistance is intended for customers who have already filed through Range 313 and want help identifying the available submission record, recent notice, or proper official inquiry path.

The service cannot accelerate processing, predict the decision, reveal protected agency research, or substitute for direct ATF communication when the question is outside dealer records.

Service details

What status assistance may include.

The team can review available transaction information and route the question, but cannot create an official agency answer.

01

Identity check

Confirm the customer and transaction before discussing store-held submission information.

02

Reference review

Locate available confirmation numbers, filing dates, item records, emails, or notices.

03

Notice context

Distinguish ordinary confirmation, correction, return, withdrawal, approval, or other available messages.

04

Contact path

Identify whether the next question belongs with Range 313, eForms support, or the appropriate ATF branch.

05

Record update

Document relevant customer contact information or store-side follow-up within the available service scope.

From reference to responsible follow-up

Check the record before contacting the agency.

A clear reference and focused question are more useful than an inquiry based only on elapsed time.

01 / Collect

Gather every notice

Bring confirmation emails, submission references, filing dates, and messages associated with the transfer.

02 / Compare

Review store records

Confirm that the customer, item, and available filing information identify the same transaction.

03 / Classify

Name the question

Separate a portal problem, correction request, store update, processing question, and official determination.

04 / Contact

Use the proper channel

Follow current official guidance for the branch, help desk, or dealer contact responsible for that issue.

Know what the information means

Published averages or a specific status?

General processing data describes finalized applications in aggregate; it does not promise when one pending filing will finish.

Published processing data

General context

  • Agency-reported averages
  • Updated periodically
  • Form categories grouped
  • Not an individual deadline

Application-specific inquiry

Focused follow-up

  • Exact submission reference
  • Applicant identification
  • Specific question or notice
  • Official channel required

Before you visit

Transfer status assistance FAQs.

Bring complete references and follow current ATF guidance about appropriate inquiry timing and channels.

Can Range 313 see everything ATF sees?+

No. Dealer and applicant records do not expose all agency review, background-check, research, or decision information.

Can Range 313 speed up my application?+

No. The team can help organize records and identify the correct channel, but cannot prioritize, expedite, approve, or control ATF processing.

Are published processing times a deadline?+

No. ATF describes published figures as averages for finalized applications. Individual filings may take more or less time for many reasons.

What should I bring for a status question?+

Bring identification, the item or transaction description, submission date, confirmation or control references, eForms notices, and any correction or agency message received.

Who handles an official NFA status check?+

ATF currently directs NFA form-processing questions to its designated Industry Processing Branch. Check the current NFA Division or eForms support page before contacting the agency.
